Pop superstar Katy Perry, who grew up in Santa Barbara, has come back to shoot her latest video.

Perry currently has the number one song in America, “California Gurls,” according to the Billboard Magazines Hot 100 chart. She has held that spot for six weeks. Perry also had a number one hit with, “I Kissed a Girl,” in 2008.

Sources involved in the shoot tell KEY News Perry has been shooting scene at the Goleta Beach, the Carrillo Recreation Center gymnasium, a local hotel, and in the Santa Barbara “Funk Zone.”Two fans hanging out on Canon Perdido street this afternoon got a memorable moment when Perry walked out to the production shoot and waved them over. “I kept yelling, Katy, Katy. Can I take a picture with you?” said 17-year old Eric Belanger from Santa Barbara. He was with his friend Valeria Balcazar. “She called us over and we ran over there and it was amazing. I looked in her eyes and and gave her a big hug,” said Belanger.

Both got photos with Perry on their phones and ran away hugging each other, after meeting the music star.

Perry has mostly kept a low profile outside of the shoot locations.

Perry went to school in the Santa Barbara and Goleta area and was known then as Katy Hudson. She began her musical career in high school singing gospel music, then changed her name and switched to pop music where she has had huge success and received a Grammy nomination in 2009.

Last year, Perry performed at the Santa Barbara Bowl at the end of her tour, drawing a sellout crowd. During the show on several occasions she went into the audience from a stage extension and left many fans with lasting memories of the performance.
