We all know plenty of things in life can cause break-outs. Whether it is skin that is too oily or too dry, pollution, weather, hormones, diet, or any number of other troubles we come across day-to-day, acne can hit at any time.

In the case of Katy Perry, she’s found that stress is what sets off her skin, and unlucky for her, as the break-outs cause even more stress, it turns into a vicious cycle. According to Acne-Resource.org: “Stress causes worsening of acne in two ways. First, by stimulating adrenal glands to produce more hormones and secondly, by slowing down the healing process.Despite being the face of Proactiv, a US acne-fighting skincare brand, Katy has recently been pictured with flare-ups on her cheeks and chin, and admits that this has proved to be a big issue for her. However, despite criticism she receives for her skin, her problem is usually very minor, with some worsened periods.

She told Cosmopolitan magazine: “I got acne at the start of my career. It was a stressful time.” However, like many of us, she confesses she turns to heavy make-up to try and disguise break-outs, which could in turn clogs pores further and make the condition worse. “One [of my insecurities is] that I have acne scars. I’m self-conscious about that, so sometimes I wear too much makeup to cover them up.” In some red carpet snaps you can see small bumps underneath her make-up, which may be traces of acne.
