Katy Perry fan upset with pushing and shoving

Alex White brought home a few souvenirs from the Katy Perry concert. She’d been at the front of Tuesday’s concert in the mosh pit, when, after just one song, the crowd turned ugly.

“Everyone’s pushing, everyone’s pushing me, people were getting pushed. Next minute you’ve got fists in your face, you’ve got heaps of people throwing punches, kicks and whatever else,” she says.

Ms White says the injuries were inflicted by girls throwing punches, and the experience was terrifying.

“I honestly thought I’d be in a coma and not wake up,” she says. She screamed at security to get her out of there.

“They did, but they took their time trying to get to me ‘cause I don’t think security there was tight enough,” she says.

Mrs White was treated by St John Ambulance at the venue but another woman was taken to hospital with injuries from the mosh pit.

The security contingent was as requested by the promoter.

“There was roughly one security or venue staff member per 100 patrons and that’s absolutely standard for an event of this size,” says Glenys Coughlan.

Mrs White paid $100 for her ticket seven months ago

“We watched a five minute show, spent a lot of money, and to get beaten up within five minutes, that’s appalling,” she says.

As for going to concerts in the future, “never again, never again,” she says, adding she’ll be pursuing a refund.
