Katy Perry Set to Play Marilyn Monroe in Broadway Musical
Singer Katy Perry may have missed her chance to play Marilyn Monroe in the movie ‘My Week With Marilyn’. However, now she could get to do it in a Broadway musical by the same name. What’s more, an important Hollywood star’s interested in sharing the stage with her.
Perry hasn’t said yes as of yet. However, many people believe she will. As for the star who is willing to share the stage with her. That’s Kenneth Branagh who played the part of Sir Laurence Olivier in the film. He’s eager to reprise it on stage.
Branagh had this to say about his association with the musical. “I think if Harvey (Weinstein) sees it as a musical, then I think there’s going to be something amazing come out of it. And if Katy is going to do it, I think there’d have to be something amazing come out of that too.”
Despite the fact that Katy Perry hasn’t green lighted the project yet, Branagh jokes, “I expect a call. I’m available. I’ve got my dancing shoes in the cupboard.” He also says, “…I’ll start the singing lessons now.”
Katy Perry could make a very enticing and fun Marilyn Monroe. A lot of people believe it’s a great opportunity for their favorite chanteusse. As for Branagh, the reactions could be mixed. While the critics loved him in ‘My Week With Marilyn’, not all the audience members did. Is he the best choice for the Broadway musical? That’s a tough call!
What do you think. Should Katy Perry do Broadway? Should Kenneth Branagh be involved. Weigh in.
