The other day, Katy Perry was Googling herself again. “Any artist who says they don’t Google their name is a big fat liar,” she says. Perry is shrewd about her online image, with 3,062,173 followers on Twitter and a long-standing friendship with Perez Hilton, who has boosted her for many years. She was on her laptop, which she calls her office – she has no other, not even at her home, a 1920s triplex in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles that she cleans obsessively – when she noticed a bunch of online gossip sites were reporting that she had called Miley Cyrus’ new look “Britney Spears all over again” at the MuchMusic Awards in Toronto. “It’s worse. Look at those outfits. It’s bad.”

Now, Perry had said nothing of the sort – or, at least, nothing she meant for anyone to overhear. This required immediate action. She quickly tweeted a response: “I never said shit bout my girl Miley. I love that ho.” • Read full story…

From all indications, she’ll have another hit album on her hands this August when Teenage Dream hits stores, and Katy Perry’s second single is the album’s title track.

“Teenage Dream” debuted on radio and online outlets yesterday and Katy told press it was a very special song for her to write.

I wrote that song in Santa Barbara and it was a very pure moment for me, because that’s where I’m from. And it was, like, where I started my creative juices.”

“And also it kind of exudes this euphoric feeling because everybody remembers what their teenage dreams were — all the girls that were on your poster walls. And I want to continue to be one of those … teenage wet dreams.”

Katy Perry is dangerously close to falling. Not because she’s launching herself into the air with a harness like Pink, or clomping through a Heathrow terminal in a dozen-inch platforms, like Lady Gaga. This pop star’s potential collapse is due to an unfortunate combination of sand, schmoozing and exquisite heels.

At dusk on this squint-inducingly sunny, mid-June evening, Perry’s handlers have transplanted a beach party scene, complete with parasols, inflated balls and a sprawling stretch of sand, to the posh New York event hall Espace. About 100 select members of the industry — mostly radio programmers, but also Perry’s Capitol Records team and the Norwegian production duo, Stargate — have surrendered their cell phones for the price of hearing nine tracks from the singer’s new album, “Teenage Dream.” Most people are huddled by the open bar, and absolutely no one is going near the sand-except, that is, for Perry, who after setting up each track, traipses back and forth through the pit to greet those in attendance. The dress fits snuggly on her body, hugging her pin-up girl curves and complimenting her slightly windblown hair. This look is not something Katy is unfamiliar with; in fact, she fully embraces her curves. “American Idol” contestants should be thankful that they have caring, sharing Ellen DeGeneres on the panel now and not Katy Perry.

The singer was a guest judge for auditions to be featured on next season’s show, and she didn’t pull any punches with the hopeless hopefuls.

“We all have friends or people that we’ve known that maybe they wanted to be a rock star, or be this or that, and no one ever told them that they can’t,” she says. “Like, ‘It’s just like you weren’t born with pitch, so it’s not going to happen and someone needs to tell you that because 15 years later you’ve wasted all this time and when you could have been a doctor.’” • Read full story…

Katy Perry garnered a 2010 Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for her dancey makeup-to-breakup ode, “Hot n Cold.” And the singer, who released her album One of the Boys, on which the song appears, in June 2008, is surprised she’s being nominated for it so long after the album’s release.

“Again? Jeez!” she joked about her reaction to the news at the Grammy Nominations Concert on Wednesday night in Los Angeles. Then getting serious, she said, “No it wasn’t that. It was thanks! It was encouraging.”

Perry was nominated in the same Grammy category in 2009 for her song “I Kissed a Girl” and says it makes her feel good that her work is still being recognized in such a big way. “I just started my new record, and to think that this little record that I bled sweat and tears over for five years of making it and then being on the road for two years … it’s been such a process,” she explained. “But to think it’s still continuing is encouraging.” • Read full story…

Perkier than a cheerleader on Twinkie Island, Katy Perry is psyched about her hometown show Sunday at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

The singer, whose smash album “One of the Boys” has sold zillions of copies, was originally slated to play there May 9, but had to scrap the show after the Jesusita fire broke out in the area. Now she’s ready to return, and fans can expect a show packed with hits like “I Kissed a Girl,” “Waking Up in Vegas” and “Thinking of You.” If you want a double dose, she’s playing the day before at the Hollywood Palladium.

Perry, whose parents were both preachers, grew up in Santa Barbara, where she used to sing at the farmers market. She dropped out of high school, recorded a gospel album, and then, after a few false starts, struck platinum with “One of the Boys.”

Perry, just a young lady having a blast because she can, had lots to say about lots of stuff recently.
