Katy Perry Set To Perform at MusiCares Benefit Concert Honoring Paul McCartney

Not only will Katy Perry and Coldplay be performing on the Grammy Stage Feb. 12, the two popsters will be honoring Paul McCartney two days prior at this year’s MusiCares tribute concert. Alicia Keys is also listed as a performer.

Part of an annual tradition dating back to 1991, this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year concert will be held in Los Angeles, with tickets ranging from $1,500 to $100,000. It sounds awfully pricey, even with that lineup, but it’s for a good cause: MusiCares offers a safety net for musicians who need assistance in times of financial, personal, or medical crisis.

In addition to Coldplay, Perry, and Keys, this year’s list of performers includes Foo Fighters, Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, and past Person of the Year honorees James Taylor and Tony Bennett — as well as McCartney himself, who’ll be promoting his latest album, the collection of pop standards ‘Kisses on the Bottom.’

Katy Perry could be headed to the big-screen — and in 3D, to boot.

Paramount has initiated talks with Perry’s camp, as well as Imagine Entertainment, to create a documentary-style 3D film centered on the powerhouse singer-songwriter.

Dealmaking is still in the early stages, and no director is officially on board yet. But both sides are eager to make the details work, and insiders say it’s just a matter of working out the logistics. A source close to the dealing says Paramount wants to use the model it employed for its successful concert film featuring Justin Bieber, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.” That film, released February 11, 2011, holds the domestic box office record for a concert film with $73 million. (The worldwide record is held by Michael Jackson’s “This Is it,” which grossed $261.2 million in 2009.)

After a long absence, concert films have come back in vogue in recent years, especially those that focus on young-skweing acts and include a documentary aspect allowing fans into the personal lives of the stars. Disney’s Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour started off the new wave in 2008, grossing a surprising $65 million. A year later, Disney repeated the success with Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. “This Is It” and “Never Say Never” followed.However, not every effort has been a success. Fox’s ” Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,” released in August, was the last concert movie to hit screens. It’s weak $11.8 million performance was attributed to “Glee” overload.

Perry could prove to be an ideal subject for a documentary-style concert film. Not only is she a top-selling act, her core audience consists of teen girls, the same demo that made the Bieber, Cyrus and Jonas Bros. films successful. On top of that, her performances and style are so colorful and visual that they may lend themselves to the cinema experience.

Katy Perry To Perform At Grammy Awards

Katy Perry will take the stage at the Grammy Awards on February 12. The two-time nominee was announced as the latest performer on Wednesday (February 1).

The currently blue-haired pop star is up for Record of the Year for her feel-good empowerment track, “Firework.” The Teenage Dream single is also up for Best Pop Solo Performance. This is hardly her first time performing on the show.

At the 2011 Grammys, she performed her songs “Not Like the Movies” and “Teenage Dream.” The Valentine-themed performance also included the debut of footage from her wedding to her now-estranged husband, Russell Brand. In 2009, Perry performed her breakthrough hit “I Kissed a Girl” surrounded by giant, glittering pieces of prop fruit. And in 2010 she took the stage at the Grammy Nominations show and sang her ubiquitous candy-coated track, “California Gurls.”

The same day that Perry was announced as a performer, fellow nominee Drake was announced as one of the night’s big presenters, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley.

Adele announced her long-rumored Grammy performance on Tuesday. It marks her first performance since a November vocal surgery. “I’m immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards,” Adele said. “It’s an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all.” Rihanna, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj are also confirmed to perform live at the 54th annual awards show, which will be hosted by LL Cool J.

If you haven’t had enough of Katy Perry over the past year and a half, well you’re in luck!She’s ready to do a complete re-release of one of the biggest pop albums of all time. Five number one singles (with a sixth still in the works), Katy is prepping a re-release for sometime in 2012.When will it be released? And what’s going to make this album special?

Set to hit stores on March 13th, the retooled album titled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection- will include new tracks. And while the name of the cuts are presently unconfirmed,”Dressing Up”and ”Part Of Me”– two new Perry tracks which recently “surfaced” – have been wiped off Youtube in their entirety.

Does that mean something extra special? Probably. But maybe not! We heard later last year that her producer from Teenage Dream and Katy herself hit the studio for something new, but he never actually confirmed what it was! Well this just might be it!

Are you feeling new Katy Perry material? Or do you think she’s taking this whole thing to a completely new level of “milking it”. I can’t deny it. I think she is, BUT I love myself some Kitty Purry, and it’ll give her some time to get over this whole divorce with Russell Brand before she comes out with another brand NEW album sometime in the future.

If you listen to commercial radio, this is not news: Katy Perry had a huge year. She went No.1 five times. She was the most played artist on the radio. But the record industry is so weird, it’s hard to know whether this kind of success translates into huge amounts of money.

So we asked.

I walked over to Katy Perry’s record label. She’s on Capital, which is under EMI. I met Greg Thompson, executive vice president of marketing and promotion at EMI.

“Did you guys end up in the black?” I asked.

“As far as I know, yes,” he said.

“How do you not know?!”

“I believe we did. Absolutely,” he said.

But how much did they spend on Katy Perry? And how much did they make?

Here’s what EMI did say: “We invested substantially to make a great record.”

What does “substantially” mean? I called up Andy Tavel, an entertainment lawyer. He’s had clients like Mary J. Blige and the Cure. I ran into Dr. John in his lobby. Tavel helped me think through what EMI spent on Katy Perry.The first expense is the album itself.

Why so expensive? Take “California Gurls.” It features Snoop Dogg. He’s pricey. And the producers on the song — Dr. Luke and Max Martin (among others), who charge around $100,000 per song. And there are 12 tracks on the album.

Then there’s Katy Perry’s advance. “That advance could have been perhaps a million dollars net, maybe $2 million — I can’t say for certain,” Tavel says.

So the record company has shelled out millions of dollars before anyone has even heard the album.

Next expense: Getting the album played on Top 40 radio. Tavel says it could cost up to $250,000 just to get the first single played on radio — special promotions, free merchandise and gifts.

For example: the painting of Katy Perry on one program director’s wall. She’s naked, wrapped in a cloud of cotton candy. (That’s also the album cover image, but seeing it painted is somehow different.)

Tavel figures the album cost the label somewhere around $4 million.

They made all that — and much more — on the sales of Katy Perry singles.

“Being in the business of pennies,” Greg Thompson, the EMI record exec says, “can actually be a good business.”

Here’s what Katy Perry sold in the United States: 2 million albums and 24 million digital tracks. That’s not a lot of albums. That is a LOT of songs. At a dollar a pop.

Back to the back of the envelope: Let’s say you bought “The One That Got Away” for 99 cents on iTunes. Thirty cents goes to Apple. Thirty cents goes to the songwriters (including Katy Perry). The label gets the rest. Perry has to pay back the recording costs and the advance out of her royalties.

By my estimate, the record-shattering, chart-topping Katy Perry made her label around $8 million in U.S. music sales. And that doesn’t even count revenue from movie trailers, commercials or foreign sales.

But, Katy Perry notwithstanding, the record industry is still in trouble.

“The problem is, their batting average isn’t high enough,” Tavel says. “Those success stories like Katy Perry are unfortunately too few and far between.”

EMI needs a whole roster of Katy Perrys.

Katy Perry Unfollows Russell Brand on Twitter

The 27-year-old “Firework” singer has unfollowed her soon-to-be ex-husband on Twitter. As of Friday, Perry is still one of the 78 people Brand subscribes to via the social networking site.

It’s not surprising, given that Perry is only communicating with Brand, 36, via phone or email. “She’s limiting those interactions,” a source tells the new issue of Us Weekly (out now). “He’s being so atrocious that she feels like she never really knew him.”
Perry has been keeping Brand off her mind by focusing on her career: she performed in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Thursday, and she recently shot an Adidas ad in Santa Barbara, Calif.

“She doesn’t want to look battered and have people for sorry for her,” a Perry source tells Us. “She’s very strong and confident.”

Katy Perry may not have been in the house for the 2012 People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night, but the five-time winner certainly appreciated all the trophies from afar.

Perry had been up for seven awards and managed to take home five of them at the fan-voted awards show, hosted by “The Big Bang Theory” leading lady Kaley Cuoco. So, what did Perry win? She nabbed Favorite TV Guest Star for her cameo on “How I Met Your Mother,” Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song of the Year for “E.T” featuring Kanye West, Favorite Music Video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and Favorite Tour Headliner.

“THANK U to every1 who voted for me for the @peopleschoice tonight! We won so many!” she tweeted. “Now I need to get more books 2 successfully display them!”After her split from Russell Brand had been confirmed, Perry later revealed that she’d skip the awards show. She has been lying low since the New Year’s announcement that she and her husband of one year would be divorcing.

But she wasn’t the only absent winner excited for all the love from her fans. Taylor Swift was home in Music Town when she nabbed the prize for Favorite Country Artist. “Thank you so much for my People’s Choice Award! Favorite Country Artist! PARTY!!!” she tweeted from her home in Nashville. “Seriously- thank you for voting.”

Other big winners of the night included Emma Stone, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″ and Demi Lovato, who not only took home the trophy for Favorite Pop Artist but also performed her song “Give Your Heart a Break” during the show.

SOMETIMES being a no-show means you end up stealing the show. At least, that’s what happened to singer Katy Perry when she declined to show up for the 38th annual People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Perry, who recently split from husband Russell Brand, ended up winning in five categories, including Favourite Female Artist.

Perry also won for Favourite Tour Headliner, Song Of The Year for E.T. (which featured rapper Kanye West), Favourite Music Video for Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.), and even took home an acting award as the Favourite TV Guest Star for her appearance on the CBS hit series, How I Met Your Mother.

The TV series was also a winner, beating the likes of Modern Family, Two And A Half Men and Glee to take the Favourite Network TV Comedy award, and Mother star Neil Patrick Harris nabbed the Favourite TV Comedy Actor trophy. Lea Michelle of Glee won for Favourite TV Comedy Actress.
Other winners that night were Emma Stone and Johnny Depp taking home awards for Favourite Movie Actress and Actor, respectively. Depp also won for Favourite Animated Movie Voice. Water For Elephants, starring Robert Pattinson, won Favourite Movie Drama, while Bridesmaids took the Favourite Movie Comedy award.

In the music categories, Maroon 5 won for Favourite Band, Taylor Swift won for Favourite Country Artist, Demi Lovato was Favourite Pop Artist and Rihanna was named Favourite R&B Artist.

Meanwhile, Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman was awarded the People’s Choice inaugural Favourite Movie Icon award.

He had earlier joked: “When I found out that I’d been nominated for the first-ever People’s Choice Movie Icon award, I decided to look up ‘icon’ and here’s what I found: The first definition said an icon is a tiny picture on a computer screen that represents a file.”

Katy Perry knew nothing of divorce before split

Katy Perry and Russell Brand hadn’t spoken about divorce prior to their split.

Although the pair were said to be having “normal couple problems” before the actor-and-comedian filed for divorce on December 30 -- just over a year after they first tied the knot -- Perry reportedly had no idea Russell was considering ending their marriage for good.

A source said: “Katy and Russell were having normal couple problems. There was no talk of divorce around Thanksgiving. It all happened right before Christmas but no one, not even Katy saw the divorce coming.”

While the singer is said to be “devastated” at the marital split, the insider added that there is “zero chance” of the couple rekindling their romance.

Brand recently admitted he found it hard not to “cherish and crave” his wilder days before he met Perry.In an interview recorded shortly before the couple’s split, he said: “I’d do a gig and four or five women would come back.

“There were times when it wasn’t all desperate and ugly. There were times when I was this representation of pure libertarianism and sexuality. It’s so hard not to cherish them and crave them.

“I know where they ended up. I know where they went, but I became this thing. Women meeting across me. One would leave, another would come. There’d be crossovers. And they had no problem with each other. And it was blissful.”

Perry recently moved out of the home she shared with Brand to a temporary house just 5km away.

The Last Friday Night hitmaker is said to have purchased the $1.9 million pad -- which comes complete with five bedrooms and five bathrooms -- until she finds somewhere more permanent to live.

Despite the initial shock of the divorce, Perry took to Twitter last week to pay tribute to her supporters and reassure them that she has a “happy heart” once again.

“I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again.”

Last night, we were wandering around an Ulta store and we literally thought, “What kind of mascara can give me eyelashes like Katy Perry’s?”

After trying on what seemed like seven thousand brands we gave up because a) we didn’t want our eyelashes to fall out and b) nothing was getting us those long, luxurious lashes.

Well, pretty soon, we’ll be able to walk into that same Ulta and walk out with Katy Perry-style eyelashes!

Katy already has two perfumes, Meow and Purr, but the beauty-obsessed lady is looking to expand her empire with expansive lashes via a fake eyelash company called Eylure.

According to a press release from the company, Perry “had a very clear idea of what she wanted to achieve and was involved in every step of the design process.”

Saying that Perry is a huge part of the eyelash designing process, the eyelashes are supposedly a “direct extension of her own personal style.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron ’hates’ the 25-year-old’s pop-tastic music (according to PerezHilton.com) and isn’t afraid to admit it!

In an interview with the UK’s Daily Telegraph, Cameron said the “appalling” music choices of his children, including Katy Perry and Bruno Mars, are “beginning to infect my iPod”.

Ouch! Maybe this is a nationalistic response to American Katy’s forthcoming divorce from British native, Russell Brand? Although we’d expect Cameron to be a little more diplomatic when it comes to foreign affairs.

Hilariously, the British PM also ‘proudly’ admitted he’s finished the “Angry Birds” computer game, and is keen on playing “Fruit Ninja” on his iPad.

Just days after Katy Perry broke her silence for the first time since news of her split from husband Russell Brand, the singer has announced she’ll no longer be attending the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards,” she tweeted on Monday (January 9) about her previously scheduled appearance. “I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS.” The singer is up for seven awards at the show, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist and Song of the Year for her Kanye West-assisted “E.T.”

A week after Brand filed for divorce from his pop-star wife of 14 months, Perry used the social-networking site to thank her fans for sticking by her during this trying personal time — without directly confirming the split. “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world,” she wrote. “You guys have made my heart happy again.”In another tweet, she addressed the tabloid chatter that has been swirling since news of the split hit the Web on December 30. “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me,” she said, “Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.”

Perry’s still scheduled to make two appearances on her California Dreams Tour later this month, one on January 19 in Jakarta, Indonesia, and another on January 22 in the Philippines, according to her website. With the PCA appearance canceled, Perry’s next awards-show appearance could take place February 12 at the Grammys, where she’s up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Firework.”

Keith and Mary Hudson, pastors at the Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio, told their congregation that the divorce was sent by God in order to encourage the 300 worshipers into church.

Miss Perry’s name was a trending item on Twitter following the announcement of the end of her 15-month marriage to Russell, 36.

“I’m sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight,” said Mrs Hudson, 63.

“I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012,” The Sun reported.

Her husband, 63, made an emotional plea to worshippers to not judge his 27-year old daughter.
“I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children.

“Just because they do not like what you do or what you are, they are still praying that you stay in the race. They are counting on you.

“I believe in God, for every one of my children.”

He told worshippers their daughter’s success had given them access to Hollywood stars. “God has given us a platform to go in and meet people — and they like us because we are cool,” he said.

Perry was raised a devout Christian in Santa Barbara, California, and listened only to gospel music, but is now famed for her racy outfits.

Brand has said he feared “disaster” when he met Perry’s parents in 2009 but won them over by quoting Nelson Mandela.

”Obviously when I heard that my girlfriend had preacher parents, I thought, ‘well, this has got a huge scope for disaster’ but it’s actually been quite good so far.

”They love the old school Englishness. There’s a thing where the mom said ‘Nothing’s impossible’, and I went, ‘well, of course, Nelson Mandela said that everything is impossible until it’s done’, and she went, ‘Oh’, and she really enjoyed that.”

But the I Kissed a Girl singer has previously spoken of her discomfort at Brand’s offensive jokes.

“Russell has made very blasphemous jokes in the past, but he’s making fewer all the time because he knows that I am very sensitive about this subject,” she said.

“You can be frivolous and fun without needing to get involved in that. And I don’t know why that only happens to the Christian religion. For me, spirituality is something very important and I don’t like it when people take it lightly.”

It is reported that Perry asked Brand to file their court papers, citing irreconcilable differences, to avoid upsetting her parents who are opposed to divorce.

Katy Perry’s parents, who are evangelical ministers, mentioned their famous daughter a number of times at religious services in Ohio on Wednesday, but sidestepped the issue of her divorce from Russell Brand.

Keith and Mary Hudson, who arrived at Church on the Rise in Westlake, outside Cleveland, to host two nights of “prophetic services,” saidthey attend Perry’s concerts even though they don’t love the idea of people worshiping pop idols.

“I only go for one reason and one reason only … because I love my daughter and I will always love her,” Keith Hudson said.

“It was almost like church,” he added of the concert experience, adding that Perry’s fans “want to worship and they want to love, they are just worshiping and loving the wrong person.”

The Hudsons billed themselves as “Katy Perry’s parents” on marketing materials for the event, but then told the crowd of about 300 that they don’t need help from anyone famous – or their relatives – to find God.

“I’m sure that Katy’s trending on the Internet was to get you here to church tonight,” Mary Hudson said in her opening remarks.

“You don’t need a verse or a scripture. You don’t need Katy Perry’s father,” Keith said later. “In the news they call us, ‘Katy Perry’s parents are religious.’ Do I look religious?”

Keith, who did most of the speaking, said he converted from a drug user to a Christian when he was 24 years old. He touched on the evolution of church, developing a relationship with Jesus, and keeping a relationship with one’s children.

“What has taken place in my daughter’s life has opened many opportunities to go in and be with guarded and gated people,” he said. “They like us because we’re cool. We are not threatening.”

He added: “The most important people on this Earth are your family. What would heaven be like without your children?”

At the end, the Hudsons signed books, sold jewelry to fund a women’s mission, and gave away samples of Katy’s perfume, Purr.

Katy Perry Writing New Songs about Russell Brand Split

Katy Perry is reportedly pouring the heartbreak felt from her recent split from husband Russell Brand into her new material.

The singer is said to have written down her feelings in a book since her marriage to the actor broke down at the end of 2011 and intends to use the notes for her third album. A source told The Sun: “Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary which she goes back to to draw upon for lyrics for her songs.

“She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary.”

They added: “She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks.”

Perry recently revealed that she plans to take take time off to “live a little” before she starts work on the follow-up to Teenage Dream.

Since Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry after 14 months of marriage, reports have surfaced suggesting that the actor/comedian wasnever sexually satisfied by his pop star wife.

“Katy was kinky enough during their first times together and he was very attracted to her,” a source claimed. “When things got bad, if they got a roll in the hay, they were always better after,” the insider added.

But apparently Russell’s sexual appetite became too much for Katy to keep up with. Brand, a recovering sex addict, actually has an erotic award named after him in U.K.’s The Sun — ‘The Russell Brand Shagger of the Year Award.’

The US Weekly article goes on to name several other sources of tension between the now estranged couple. Apparently Katy’s busy schedule left Russell feeling neglected and lonely. Russell, a recovering alcohol and drug addict, reportedly also had a hard time dealing with Katy’s partying ways. According to the report, Brand was ready to start a family, while Katy insisted she was too busy.

Sources also alleged that Brand was never supportive of Katy’s career. “She had so many things going on this year and there were so many times he wasn’t there,” a source said. “He told her she wasn’t funny [when she hosted SNL] and he was totally uninterested [when he sat front row at her last concert]. He seemed annoyed he was there. I don’t think he sat through one whole song.”

The world’s leading Hindus have expressed their dismay at the end of Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s marriage, insisting the pair should have worked harder to stay together.

Brand announced plans to divorce the pop star, citing “irreconcilable differences,” on Friday and religious leaders in the U.S. have gone public with their feelings about the split.

The couple underwent an elaborate Hindu wedding ceremony in October, 2010, in Rajasthan, India, and the religion’s leaders feel the celebrities have given their faith a bad name.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed tells WENN, “They should have taken marriage more seriously as it is a sacred rite in Hinduism.”

Zed, who is president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, adds, “In Hinduism, marriage is the most important sacrament. The married couple is looked upon as a complete module for worship and participation in cultural and social acts.

“If celebrities opt for a Hindu wedding, they should be prepared to adhere to the commitment, devotion, responsibility, sanctity and morals, which are attached to it. There are reasons why Hindus, as a group, have one of the lowest divorce rates in the world.”
