Just days after Katy Perry broke her silence for the first time since news of her split from husband Russell Brand, the singer has announced she’ll no longer be attending the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

“Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the People’s Choice Awards,” she tweeted on Monday (January 9) about her previously scheduled appearance. “I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS.” The singer is up for seven awards at the show, including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Pop Artist and Song of the Year for her Kanye West-assisted “E.T.”

Katy Perry has spoken out for the first time since her split from Russell Brand.

The singer thanked fans for their support and insisted they shouldn’t believe everything that’s written about the former couple in the press. Brand filed for divorce from Perry in December last year, citing irreconcilable differences for the split.

“I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again,” Perry wrote on Twitter.

“Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, “close sources” or my family.”

Perry, who wanted Brand to be the one to file for divorce due to her religious parents, is said to be writing new songs about the split.

Brand admitted just days before the split that he missed his promiscuous past and it has since been claimed that he is hoping for a happier 2012.

Keith and Mary Hudson, pastors at the Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio, told their congregation that the divorce was sent by God in order to encourage the 300 worshipers into church.

Miss Perry’s name was a trending item on Twitter following the announcement of the end of her 15-month marriage to Russell, 36.

“I’m sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight,” said Mrs Hudson, 63.

“I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012,” The Sun reported.

Katy Perry’s parents, who are evangelical ministers, mentioned their famous daughter a number of times at religious services in Ohio on Wednesday, but sidestepped the issue of her divorce from Russell Brand.

Keith and Mary Hudson, who arrived at Church on the Rise in Westlake, outside Cleveland, to host two nights of “prophetic services,” saidthey attend Perry’s concerts even though they don’t love the idea of people worshiping pop idols.

“I only go for one reason and one reason only … because I love my daughter and I will always love her,” Keith Hudson said.

“It was almost like church,” he added of the concert experience, adding that Perry’s fans “want to worship and they want to love, they are just worshiping and loving the wrong person.”

The Hudsons billed themselves as “Katy Perry’s parents” on marketing materials for the event, but then told the crowd of about 300 that they don’t need help from anyone famous – or their relatives – to find God.

“I’m sure that Katy’s trending on the Internet was to get you here to church tonight,” Mary Hudson said in her opening remarks.

“You don’t need a verse or a scripture. You don’t need Katy Perry’s father,” Keith said later. “In the news they call us, ‘Katy Perry’s parents are religious.’ Do I look religious?”

Keith, who did most of the speaking, said he converted from a drug user to a Christian when he was 24 years old. He touched on the evolution of church, developing a relationship with Jesus, and keeping a relationship with one’s children.

“What has taken place in my daughter’s life has opened many opportunities to go in and be with guarded and gated people,” he said. “They like us because we’re cool. We are not threatening.”

He added: “The most important people on this Earth are your family. What would heaven be like without your children?”

At the end, the Hudsons signed books, sold jewelry to fund a women’s mission, and gave away samples of Katy’s perfume, Purr.

Katy Perry is reportedly pouring the heartbreak felt from her recent split from husband Russell Brand into her new material.

The singer is said to have written down her feelings in a book since her marriage to the actor broke down at the end of 2011 and intends to use the notes for her third album. A source told The Sun: “Ever since problems started to emerge, she penned her thoughts in a diary which she goes back to to draw upon for lyrics for her songs.

“She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary.”

They added: “She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks.”

Perry recently revealed that she plans to take take time off to “live a little” before she starts work on the follow-up to Teenage Dream.

Since Brand filed for divorce from Katy Perry after 14 months of marriage, reports have surfaced suggesting that the actor/comedian wasnever sexually satisfied by his pop star wife.

“Katy was kinky enough during their first times together and he was very attracted to her,” a source claimed. “When things got bad, if they got a roll in the hay, they were always better after,” the insider added.

The US Weekly article goes on to name several other sources of tension between the now estranged couple. Apparently Katy’s busy schedule left Russell feeling neglected and lonely. Russell, a recovering alcohol and drug addict, reportedly also had a hard time dealing with Katy’s partying ways. According to the report, Brand was ready to start a family, while Katy insisted she was too busy.

Sources also alleged that Brand was never supportive of Katy’s career. “She had so many things going on this year and there were so many times he wasn’t there,” a source said. “He told her she wasn’t funny [when she hosted SNL] and he was totally uninterested [when he sat front row at her last concert]. He seemed annoyed he was there. I don’t think he sat through one whole song.”

The world’s leading Hindus have expressed their dismay at the end of Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s marriage, insisting the pair should have worked harder to stay together.

Brand announced plans to divorce the pop star, citing “irreconcilable differences,” on Friday and religious leaders in the U.S. have gone public with their feelings about the split.

The couple underwent an elaborate Hindu wedding ceremony in October, 2010, in Rajasthan, India, and the religion’s leaders feel the celebrities have given their faith a bad name.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed tells WENN, “They should have taken marriage more seriously as it is a sacred rite in Hinduism.”

Zed, who is president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, adds, “In Hinduism, marriage is the most important sacrament. The married couple is looked upon as a complete module for worship and participation in cultural and social acts.

“If celebrities opt for a Hindu wedding, they should be prepared to adhere to the commitment, devotion, responsibility, sanctity and morals, which are attached to it. There are reasons why Hindus, as a group, have one of the lowest divorce rates in the world.”

Katy Perry WANTED Russell Brand to file the court papers in their divorce … because she didn’t want to upset her religious parents … sources connected to the former couple tell TMZ. 

We’re told … Katy and Russell knew the relationship was on the rocks a couple of months ago — but didn’t want to give up on the marriage without making a concerted effort to work things out. 

But the effort fell flat … with both sides feeling “it just wasn’t there.”

We’re told both Katy and Russell were on board with the divorce a few weeks ago — but they didn’t want to be in town when the papers were filed … so he went back to England and she booked it to Hawaii. 

Since Katy’s parents are evangelical Christians, we’re told she didn’t want to be the one to “officially” end the marriage by filing the docs … since she was raised to believe divorce is wrong. 

After he filed the docs, Russell released a statement Friday insisting the two will “remain friends.”
