Katy Perry is one of the top nominees at the 25th annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and she’s just announced that she’ll also take the stage at USC’s Galen Center to perform at the awards show on March 31. The pop star, whose Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection special edition album hits stores March 27, is enjoying yet another hit with her new single “Part of Me,” which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month. The song is Perry’s seventh career chart-topper. One of her biggest hits, “Firework,” is up for the Kids’ Choice Award for Favorite Song. She is also nominated for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie for her role in “The Smurfs.” • Read full story…
Katy Perry has admitted that her next album will be much darker following her split from hubby, Russell Brand. Speaking to Interview magazine, the 27-year old claims she will have less sugary-sweet pop songs on her new LP and more edgy tracks. The Firework hitmaker stated: “My music is about to get real f****** dark. I’ll be shoe-gazing.” Perry also recently revealed to our US Team that she’s ready to start work on her third record, and will finish the campaign for her current Teenage Dream album following the released of the deluxe edition, Complete Confection. She explained: “Obviously I’m going to close this chapter soon. I am ready to make a new record and maybe try another approach artistically, and I will close the book on Teenage Dream soon, but Complete Confection just felt really organic. • Read full story… Harvey Weinstein really wants to get into the Katy Perry business. During a pre-Oscar party at Soho House in Los Angeles, Weinstein was talking to Perry about co-starring in new drama about British opera singer and reality television star, Paul Potts. “I was talking to Katy about a new project, a possible dramatic role in the Paul Potts movie, which will be shooting in England soon,” Weinstein told Page Six. “We’d really like someone like Katy or Adele to play the role of Potts’ wife, and Katy seemed genuinely interested.” What makes that sorta funny? Potts’s real-life wife, Julie-Ann, isn’t a singer at all. As for Paul Potts himself, if the names sounds familiar-ish, perhaps that’s because you are one of the 89 million YouTube users who watched the former mobile phone salesman sing “Nessun Dorma” on “Britain’s Got Talent.” Potts went on to win the reality competition, which launched him to international fame. This isn’t the first time Weinstein has courted Perry for something. Last year, Weinstein said he wanted Perry to play Marilyn Monroe in a stage version of “My Week With Marilyn.” He also used her song, “The One That Got Away,” during marketing for “Marilyn.” Guy really loves “Teenage Dream,” apparently. (Who doesn’t, but still. Source: Huffington Post The Candle In The Wind singer is determined to set Katy up with one of hubby David Furnish’s ‘single, straight and eligible’ friends after getting to know her at a concert they played together together in Rio last year. Supermodel Heidi, 38, who recently called time on her seven-year marriage to Seal, will also guest on the singles table alongside 31-year-old Kim Kardashian, who ended her 72-day marriage last year. A source told the Daily Mirror: ‘Elton wants this year’s party to go with a swing, and be more fun and raucous than in previous years. ‘It was his idea to invite some of the highest profile, newly-single female celebs in town. ‘He thinks it’s a great way to put a smile back on their faces – and hopefully land them new men.’ • Read full story… Rihanna has reportedly offered to set Katy Perry up with a man. ‘Cheers (Drink to That)’ singer Rihanna is close to the ‘Firework’ star and hoping to help her get over her 14-month marriage to Russell Brand – which ended in December – by getting back on the dating scene. A source told HollywoodLife.com: ‘Rihanna wants to help Katy in any way she can. She is telling her that she’ll start setting her up!’ Katy’s friends are also keen on the idea of her finding a new romance, instead of ‘wasting time’ crying over Russell. The source added: ‘Katy has been very upset about the divorce. She never expected it to end and now she’s dealing with the aftermath. ‘But her friends are telling her to get back out there and date. They don’t want her to waste time being upset over Russell.’ It would appear Katy, 27, is at least open to having a good time, as she and friends were spotted out partying until three in the morning earlier this week. A source said: ‘She was also with a bunch of male friends, and they played numerous games of bowling. ‘They were drinking mixed vodka drinks and having a blast.’ Meanwhile, Russell – who is also in Los Angeles – is rumoured to have recently spent a night with model and artist Oriela Medellin Amieiro, and sources have suggested he is already going back to the womanising ways he was famous for before he met his wife. A source told Us Weekly magazine the ‘Arthur’ star is ‘definitely playing the field. And he never mentions Katy.’ Source: Sky News Next week’s Billboard Digital Songs and Hot 100 charts will be brimming with massive debuts, surging sales and some intriguing newcomers. A host of songs — new and old — will be vying for a position within both charts’ top 10s. Katy Perry’s new “Part of Me,” which was released digitally to retailers on Monday, Feb. 13, is heading for a debut sales week of around 400,000 to 420,000 downloads by week’s end on Sunday, Feb. 19 — so say industry prognosticators. That would mark the pop diva’s best debut sales frame and the highest opening week for any act since Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” sold 448,000 on the chart dated Feb. 26, 2011, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Perry premiered “Part of Me” in a performance on the Feb. 12 Grammy Awards ceremony — much like how Gaga launched “Born This Way” a year ago on the Feb. 13 Grammys (two days after the single hit digital retailers). So effectively, Perry’s “Part of Me” will sell around the same amount in seven days as Gaga did in three. • Read full story…
It’s official! “Part of Me”, the first single from Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, is being released on February 21. I’ve uploaded a new cover preview of the new single to the gallery. Not only will Katy Perry and Coldplay be performing on the Grammy Stage Feb. 12, the two popsters will be honoring Paul McCartney two days prior at this year’s MusiCares tribute concert. Alicia Keys is also listed as a performer. Part of an annual tradition dating back to 1991, this year’s MusiCares Person of the Year concert will be held in Los Angeles, with tickets ranging from $1,500 to $100,000. It sounds awfully pricey, even with that lineup, but it’s for a good cause: MusiCares offers a safety net for musicians who need assistance in times of financial, personal, or medical crisis. In addition to Coldplay, Perry, and Keys, this year’s list of performers includes Foo Fighters, Alison Krauss, Norah Jones, and past Person of the Year honorees James Taylor and Tony Bennett — as well as McCartney himself, who’ll be promoting his latest album, the collection of pop standards ‘Kisses on the Bottom.’ Source: Pop Crush Katy Perry could be headed to the big-screen — and in 3D, to boot. Paramount has initiated talks with Perry’s camp, as well as Imagine Entertainment, to create a documentary-style 3D film centered on the powerhouse singer-songwriter. Dealmaking is still in the early stages, and no director is officially on board yet. But both sides are eager to make the details work, and insiders say it’s just a matter of working out the logistics. A source close to the dealing says Paramount wants to use the model it employed for its successful concert film featuring Justin Bieber, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.” That film, released February 11, 2011, holds the domestic box office record for a concert film with $73 million. (The worldwide record is held by Michael Jackson’s “This Is it,” which grossed $261.2 million in 2009.) After a long absence, concert films have come back in vogue in recent years, especially those that focus on young-skweing acts and include a documentary aspect allowing fans into the personal lives of the stars. Disney’s Hannah Montana / Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour started off the new wave in 2008, grossing a surprising $65 million. A year later, Disney repeated the success with Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. “This Is It” and “Never Say Never” followed. • Read full story… Katy Perry will take the stage at the Grammy Awards on February 12. The two-time nominee was announced as the latest performer on Wednesday (February 1). The currently blue-haired pop star is up for Record of the Year for her feel-good empowerment track, “Firework.” The Teenage Dream single is also up for Best Pop Solo Performance. This is hardly her first time performing on the show. At the 2011 Grammys, she performed her songs “Not Like the Movies” and “Teenage Dream.” The Valentine-themed performance also included the debut of footage from her wedding to her now-estranged husband, Russell Brand. In 2009, Perry performed her breakthrough hit “I Kissed a Girl” surrounded by giant, glittering pieces of prop fruit. And in 2010 she took the stage at the Grammy Nominations show and sang her ubiquitous candy-coated track, “California Gurls.” The same day that Perry was announced as a performer, fellow nominee Drake was announced as one of the night’s big presenters, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley. Adele announced her long-rumored Grammy performance on Tuesday. It marks her first performance since a November vocal surgery. “I’m immensely proud to have been asked to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards,” Adele said. “It’s an absolute honor to be included in such a night and for it to be my first performance in months is very exciting and of course nerve-racking, but what a way to get back into it all.” Rihanna, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Jason Aldean and Nicki Minaj are also confirmed to perform live at the 54th annual awards show, which will be hosted by LL Cool J. Source: MTV If you haven’t had enough of Katy Perry over the past year and a half, well you’re in luck! She’s ready to do a complete re-release of one of the biggest pop albums of all time. Five number one singles (with a sixth still in the works), Katy is prepping a re-release for sometime in 2012.When will it be released? And what’s going to make this album special? Set to hit stores on March 13th, the retooled album titled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection- will include new tracks. And while the name of the cuts are presently unconfirmed,”Dressing Up”and ”Part Of Me”– two new Perry tracks which recently “surfaced” – have been wiped off Youtube in their entirety. Does that mean something extra special? Probably. But maybe not! We heard later last year that her producer from Teenage Dream and Katy herself hit the studio for something new, but he never actually confirmed what it was! Well this just might be it! Are you feeling new Katy Perry material? Or do you think she’s taking this whole thing to a completely new level of “milking it”. I can’t deny it. I think she is, BUT I love myself some Kitty Purry, and it’ll give her some time to get over this whole divorce with Russell Brand before she comes out with another brand NEW album sometime in the future. Source: 923 Radio If you listen to commercial radio, this is not news: Katy Perry had a huge year. She went No.1 five times. She was the most played artist on the radio. But the record industry is so weird, it’s hard to know whether this kind of success translates into huge amounts of money. So we asked. I walked over to Katy Perry’s record label. She’s on Capital, which is under EMI. I met Greg Thompson, executive vice president of marketing and promotion at EMI. “Did you guys end up in the black?” I asked. “As far as I know, yes,” he said. “How do you not know?!” “I believe we did. Absolutely,” he said. But how much did they spend on Katy Perry? And how much did they make? Here’s what EMI did say: “We invested substantially to make a great record.” What does “substantially” mean? I called up Andy Tavel, an entertainment lawyer. He’s had clients like Mary J. Blige and the Cure. I ran into Dr. John in his lobby. Tavel helped me think through what EMI spent on Katy Perry. • Read full story… |
