The “Glee” cast’s take on Katy Perry’s No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single — with lead vocals by guest star Darren Criss — is on its way to possibly the single-best sales week for a “Glee” single.

The track was released on Tuesday and is on course to sell perhaps 150,000 to 175,000 downloads by week’s end on November 14, according to industry prognosticators.

According to Columbia Records, which releases “Glee’s” music, the track did gangbusters on its first day, racking up 55,000 in sales via iTunes — marking the highest first-day sales for any “Glee” track.

Currently, the cast of the Fox TV show saw its best sales week with its debut single, a cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” It bowed with 177,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan upon its release in May of 2009. • Read full story…

Katy Perry‘s dream of owning the charts is still a reality. Perry scores a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with her latest single “Teenage Dream.”

Last week she took over the position from Eminem and Rihanna‘s “Love The Way You Lie,” ending their seven week reign. For a second week, the duo plays runner up to Katy at No. 2.

While the top two positions are on lock down, there is some movement happening within the top 10. The current king of features, Bruno Mars, rises to No. 3 with his debut single, “Just The Way Your Are.” The track is the lead single from his debut album, Doo-Wops and Hooligans, in stores October 5.

This week’s top 10 singles according to Billboard:

Katy Perry – Teenage Dream
Eminem featuring Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie
Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are
Taio Cruz – Dynamite
Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull – I Like It
Usher featuring Pitbull – DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love
Nelly – Just A Dream
Ke$ha – Take It Off
Flo Rida featuring David Guetta – Club Can’t Handle It
Taylor Swift – Mine

Even while she dominates radio with her Snoop Dog collaboration, “California Gurls,” Katy Perry releases the follow-up single “Teenage Dream” from her 2nd CD, which is set to add to her back-to-back-back No. 1 chart-toppers “I Kissed A Girl”, “Hot N Cold”, and “Waking Up In Vegas” all from her debut CD, “One of the Boys.”

Perry claims that “Teenage Dream” takes up where its predecessor left off.

“I think that it’s not completely unexpected. I really don’t think people want me to be anything that I am not. I think that people that are listening to my music and that are actual fans to this whole body of music, they see that I really try to come from an honest place, telling stories, a lot of stories coming from my life and I think that when I stop being honest people will know and will see through it,” she says. • Read full story…

Katy Perry soared to the top of the charts with her just-released second album, Teenage Dream, but don’t expect the pop star to sit around and count her dough now that she’s avoided the sophomore slump. She has big plans for the album, including a tour and “larger than life” music videos to follow in the footsteps of the clips for “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream.”

“I guess I’m looking forward to making music videos on this new album … and I’m really excited about incorporating the look and the idea of some of the songs on tour and making a massive production of it,” she said. “I’m gonna want a lot of visuals. I want it to be 10 times better than when I was on tour last.”

She said this album shows her growth as an artist since releasing her debut One of the Boys, and she hopes to capture that visually. “This record is more important, as important, if not more important than the first record,” she said. “This one will really show if it was all by chance that the first one happened, which I strongly don’t believe. But I think I have to work just as hard and show people that there is a visual element. There’s a story to the songs. … I’m really excited about going on tour again and giving out those hugs and not handshakes and making those music videos that are going to be larger than life.” • Read full story…

1. Teenage Dream
The second single from the record is another massive Max Martin (Britney/ Kelly Clarkson/ Pink) track featuring his trademark processed guitar sound. It’s also got his trademark catchy hooks and almost risqué lyrics.

2. Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)
More highly enjoyable shiny pop from Max and Dr Luke (Ke$ha/ Pink) about nights out partying and even, (gasp) breaking the law. “Pictures of last night ended up online, I’m screwed. Oh well!” sings Perry. It even includes a “ménage-a-trois” reference!

3. California Gurls
One of the best pop tracks of the year no doubt. Snoop doesn’t contribute much but the beat and care-free lyrics still add up to a massive feel-good hit. Though we have no idea how it took three top producers- Max Martin, Dr Luke and Benny Blanco- to craft the very simple beat! • Read full story…

Teenage Dream is the name of Katy Perry’s new album that landed on shelves August 24. It is also the name of her new hit single that is taking the radio waves by storm. I love this album. There is even a Kaskade remix of “Teenage Dream,” and Passion Pit’s remix of “California Girls,” need I say more? It’s a fun, flirty, party friendly album with underlining themes that illustrate drug abuse, battles with the evils that come with fame, and the risks we take when finding true love. Katy Perry commented that this album has her most honest material, because she’s not afraid of baring her soul, and worrying about it launching her into stardom. With two platinum singles on her 2008 album, One of the Boys (“I Kissed A Girl,” and “Hot n’ Cold”) she has proved to everyone that she’s not going anywhere. This album supports her rise to the top as songs like “Teenage Dream,” and “California Girls” are gaining her airtime and fans. But that’s just a small taste of the huge hits that are sure to emerge from this album. The sweetest thing about the album is the fact that it even smells good! Well, more specifically, like cotton candy. If the album cover of her nude and wrapped up in a cotton candy cloud didn’t make you drool, the smell sure will.

If you haven’t heard “Teenage Dream” on the radio yet you’ve probably been living under a rock, and if you haven’t heard “Teenage Dream (Kaskade Club Mix)” you need to buy the album… immediately. If the original version wasn’t enough to catch your ear’s attention, this dance mix will be the driving force behind your sudden urge to learn how to shuffle. It’s a classic house mix that incorporates more than cliché’ pop beats, and adds a little more spunk and funk for you dance freaks. • Read full story…

Katy Perry’s just-released album Teenage Dream already has two gigantic hit singles in “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream” and is well on its way to debuting at the top of the Billboard albums chart. With all those accomplishments already on her résumé, it’s safe to say Perry has beaten the dreaded sophomore slump.

The landscape of popular music is littered with one-and-done artists who aren’t able to parlay the success of a debut into a second effort. Consider the likes of Ashanti or James Blunt, both of whom had chart-topping hits and then struggled to keep it going the second time around. Neither Jessica Simpson nor Mandy Moore managed to come anywhere close to the heights of their first releases, and there are too many boy bands in this predicament to count.

But Perry is part of a new wave of pop stars who have managed to overcome the sophomore slump and do it with aplomb. Perry joins Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift among the many other names who have taken their second releases to even greater heights than their chart-busting debuts. What are they doing that other people aren’t? • Read full story…
